In April, parents of members of the New Rochelle junior varsity boys lacrosse team stated that their children were the victim of racism, with some students calling players “(expletive) Mexicans,” and others refusing to shake hands with African-American players.

The player accused of using the foul language was taken out of the game, but some parents are calling for further actions, claiming that Mahopac athletes have shown signs of racist behavior several times in recent years.

School officials in Mahopac launched an investigation into the allegations, which led to disciplinary action for the one student who was found to be in violation of school policies. No other students were found to be involved in the incident.

Officials did not disclose the nature of the discipline, and said they will not be releasing the name of the student due to district privacy policies.

Schools Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo reportedly met with the district’s spring sports programs to discuss district rules, sportsmanship and racism.
